Variance Report

The VR matrix is the main section of the report where users can view the actuals and outlook for month, YTD, and year-end, for all the projects. 

Vendor Analysis

Vendor/Cost Center Analysis

Analyze vendor and cost center costs by project and drill down to order numbers. Use these interactive visuals to analyze contractor costs associated with projects, orders, and cost centers.

Users can click on the + sign in the Project and Description column to drill down and look at all the order numbers and cost breakdown for each project.

A high-level overview of the program cost performance and is helpful when doing a time-period analysis. Various slicers can be used to focus on key areas which can be helpful in different cases e.g. forecast preparation.

Bring Your Own Data

 Step 1:

The Dollar Grid template app can load user data from Dataflows in Power BI service.




Step 2:

Provide the workspace id and dataflow id. There are 3 tables that are required in the Dataflow. The schema for these three tables should be defined as explained in the following steps.

Financial Outlook

a. Order Number (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

b. Year (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

c. Cost Type (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

d. Jan-Dec 12 Columns (Type: Decimal Number, Nullable: True) 



Step 4: 

Financial Actuals

a. Order Number (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

b. Cost Type (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

c. Actuals (Type: Decimal Number, Nullable: False)

d. Fiscal Period (Type: Date (MM/DD/YYYY), Nullable: False)

e. Vendor Description (Type: Text, Nullable: True)

f. Cost Center (Type: Text, Nullable: True)


Step 5: 

IO List

a. Cost Category (Type: Text, Nullable: True)

b. Order Number (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

c. Order Description (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

d. Project ID (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

e. Project Description (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

f. Department (Type: Text, Nullable: False)

g. Region (Type: Text, Nullable: True)




Step 6:

Dataflow Authentication

For dataflow connectivity, please set authentication method to OAuth2 and Privacy Level to Organizational.
